‘Bang Bang’ is a fast-paced rom-com, starring Hrithik Roshan as a man of mystery, and Katrina Kaif, as a simple bank receptionist. The storyline: Craving a change in her dull life, Harleen mistakes handsome Rajveer for her blind date set up by Trulove.com. Rajveer takes advantage of this by charming her, while he slips a priceless diamond that he has stolen from the Tower of London into her purse. Rajveer then asks Harleen if she dances and when she says “only in the mirror”, he proceeds to dazzle her with a Hrithik Roshan style dance. Naïve Harleen is totally infatuated.

Enter international criminal Omar Zafar’s (Danny Denzongpa) bad guys and government agent, Zorawar (Pawan Malhotra), both looking for the diamond. The chase begins and plenty of action ensues. Harleen realizes Rajveer is not her blind date, but he is a very dangerous man to be around. When she decides she wants to go back home, Rajveer drugs her and takes her with him. The couple travel from one beautiful location to another: Shimla, Prague, Abu Dhabi, and Greece. With Rajveer serving as her coach, he encourages her to “live for today” and Harleen starts taking to Rajveer’s lifestyle. ‘Bang Bang’ script is not the movie’s strength, but this movie gives us a lot to enjoy in other ways.

Action scenes in ‘Bang Bang’ were well done, and one in particular caught my attention: chased by the bad guys in a speed boat, Rajveer rode a jet-propelled water ski called a flyboard, which took him deep underwater and high into the air. Quite amazing. Another stunt done while on a motorcycle, required Harleen to switch from riding in back of Rajveer who was driving, to riding in front, all while traveling at high speeds. I also found the songs which were composed by Vishal-Shekhar, enjoyable, especially the energetic ‘Tere Meri’ and the dreamy ‘Meherbaan’.

Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif are world-class gorgeous. As a couple, they seem very comfortable together. Their banter back and forth is cute and mildly amusing, but could really have improved with a better script. In an interview, Hrithik said he believes he was made to play this part. He very believable in action scenes which call for strength and agility, and when he smiles he is super smooth and charming. Katrina Kaif also does well as a simple, naïve girl who hasn’t seen much of the world, melting when Rajveer turns on the charm.   When she is exposed to the outside world, she takes to the challenge and becomes a more interesting person by the end of the film.

If you are a masala movie fan, you will like Siddharth Anand’s stylish and entertaining “Bang Bang”.
