Nana Patekar, an Indian actor, born on January 1, 1951, in Murud-Janjira, Maharashtra. Nana made his film debut in 1974 in “Garman.” He has played everything from villain, gambler, wife beater, schizophrenic to a police officer and a comic crime lord. He has two National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor for ‘Parinda’ (1990) and ‘Agni Sakshi’ (1997). In 1995, Nana won the National Film Award for Best Actor for ‘Krantiveer’. Nana is the only actor to win Filmfare Awards for Best Actor for ‘Krantiveer’ (1995), Best Supporting Actor for ‘Andha Yudh’ (1989), ‘Parinda’ (1990), ‘Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman’ (1993), ‘Tirangaa’ (1994), and ‘Raajneeti’ (2011), and Best Villain for ‘Angaar’ (1992), ‘Shakti: The Power’ (2003), and “Apaharan’ (2006). In 2013, Nana received the Padma Shri from the government of India. Besides Hindi films, Nana has done many Marathi films, including one in 2016, ‘Natsamrat’, which was critically acclaimed, and for which he won a Filmfare Marathi Award for Best Actor. In 2018, he was the villain to Rajinikanth’s hero in the Tamil film ‘Kaala’. Nana is also known for his simple lifestyle and for donating generously to charities, especially to farmers in Maharashtra during droughts. Nana runs an NGO called Naam Foundation.
