Happy Birthday to Rekha (born Bhanurakhi Ganesan), iconic Indian actress, born on October 9, 1954, in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu. Due to her family’s poor financial situation, Rekha started acting at the age of 11, in ‘Rangula Ratnam’ (Telugu), and as a lead in ‘Sawan Bhadon’ (1970). Although she was not known for her looks, by the late 1970’s, Rekha had become a sex symbol. She has appeared in 180 plus films in the last four decades. She has two Filmfare Awards for Best Actress for her roles in ‘Khubsoorat’ (1980) and ‘Khoon Bhari Maang” (1988), and a Best Supporting Actress Award for ‘Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi’ (1996). Rekha had a break though with the film ‘Ghar’ (1978), playing a recovering gang-rape victim. In her most famous film, she plays a courtesan with a heart of gold. This film, “Umrao Jaan,” made in 1981, won Rekha a National Film Award for Best Actress. Other notable films are: ‘Silsila’ (1981), “Khoon Bhari Maang (1988), ‘Ijaazat’, ‘Phool Bane Angaray (1991), Mil Gaya’ *jja’ (2001), and ‘Krrish’ (2006). In2010 Rekha received a Padma Shri from the government of India for her contribution to the film industry.
Happy Birthday to Sanjay Mishra, Indian television and film actor, born on October 6, 1963, in Darbhanga, Bihar. Sanjay is a graduate of the National School of Drama in New Delhi. He started his career doing commercials and television shows. He is well-known for playing the role of a corrupt employee in a popular television sitcom ‘Office Office’. Sanjay made his debut in a Shah Rukh Khan movie, ‘Oh Darling! Yeh Hai India!’ in 1995.In 2005, he started working exclusively in films. Known for his comic timing, he appeared in movies, such as: ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ (2005), ‘Golmaal’ (2006) and ‘Golmaal Returns’ (2008), ‘Dhamaal’ (2007), ‘Welcome’ (2007), ‘Krazzy 4’ (2008), ‘All the Best: Fun Begins’ (2009), ‘Son of Sardaar’ (2012), ‘Jolly LLB’ (2013), and ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ (2015). Sanjay has also shown his talent in serious roles such as, ‘Masaan’ (2016) and ‘Ankhon Dekhi’ (2014). Happy Birthday to Vinod Khanna, Bollywood actor and producer, born on October 6, 1946, in Peshawar, British India (now Pakistan). Vinod died on April 27, 2017, after losing his battle to cancer. Vinod started his career playing a villain in ‘Man Ka Meet’ in 1968. He is one of a handful of Bollywood actors who began as villains and graduated to hero roles. His first hero roles were ‘Hum Tum Aur Woh’ (1971), ‘Mere Apne’ (1971), and ‘Achanak’’ (1973). Altogether, Vinod has appeared in over 140 films during the course of his career. He was Salman Khan’s step-father in ‘Dabangg’ (2010) and occasionally does other character parts. Some of his best movies are: ‘Haath Ki Safai’ (1974), ‘Shaque’ and ‘Hera Pheri’ (1976), ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikander’ (1978), and ‘Qurbani’ (1980). From 1982 to 1986, Vinod left the film industry and lived in commune in the US as a follower of Osho Rajneesh. In 1999, he was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2007, the Zee Cine Award for Lifetime Achievement. In 1997, Vinod joined politics and became a member of the Indian Parliment from Gurdaspur. He was the father of actors Rahul and Akshaye Khanna.
